Simmons & Simmons Announces New Managing Partner
Simmons & Simmons, a leading international law firm, has named Emily Monastiriotis as their new managing partner. Set to take over the top role on May 1, 2025, Monastiriotis will succeed the current managing partner, Jeremy Hoyland, who has held the position since 2011.
About Emily Monastiriotis
Experience and Career Growth
Monastiriotis, presently serving as the international head of dispute resolution, has been a partner at Simmons & Simmons since 2017. She holds a seat on the firm’s international executive committee and has previously taken on the role of the UK head of dispute resolution.
Educational Background
Monastiriotis kickstarted her legal career in 2000 after graduating from Durham University. Being originally from Greece, she has built a successful practice in dispute resolution.
Transition of Leadership
Jeremy Hoyland, who has efficiently led the firm since 2011 and is currently serving his third term, extended his tenure by two years from 2023. This implies he will step down in April this year after 14 years at the helm.
Words from the Appointee and Colleagues
Upon her appointment, Monastiriotis expressed her privilege at being elected by the partnership to this role. She commended the firm’s robust foundation of sector-led, international growth under the remarkable leadership of Jeremy Hoyland. She looks forward to building on this by addressing strategic priorities and continuing to innovate to deliver premium work for clients globally.
Senior partner Julian Taylor remarked, “Emily is a highly effective, forward-thinking, and inspiring leader who will bring a wealth of experience to the role of managing partner. I look forward to working with her to build on the firm’s successes and seize the future’s opportunities.”
Leadership Changes in Other Law Firms
The appointment of Monastiriotis as managing partner at Simmons & Simmons is part of a wider series of leadership changes across major law firms. Slaughter and May recently announced that David Johnson would succeed Deborah Finkler, the firm’s first-ever managing partner, in August 2025. Meanwhile, Clifford Chance appointed Chinwe Odimba-Chapman as London managing partner in January 2025, who also assumed the role of co-regional managing partner for the firm’s “One Europe” region.
